Gov. Jim Pillen deploys Nebraska Task Force One in response to Texas flooding
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Gov. Jim Pillen deployed Nebraska Task Force One on Monday to flood-stricken areas of Texas.
The deployment comes after fatal flooding of the Guadalupe River in southeast Texas that has killed more than 100 people.

The 45-member group — including two canine teams — will leave Lincoln on Monday afternoon and arrive in San Antonio on Tuesday morning.
Pillen said he has been in contact with Texas Gov. Gregg Abbott about the flood and its aftermath.
A request for state help was issued through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact, prompting the deployment of Nebraska Task Force One.
“This continues to be a serious situation in Texas, one which requires immediate response,” Pillen said in a press release. “Nebraska stands ready to assist in any way it can. The team we are sending has the training necessary for dealing with these kinds of disaster environments and will be able to expedite the search efforts that continue to take place.”
According to officials, the Task Force One team will be taking boats, vehicles and other equipment necessary for navigating areas devastated by the floodwaters.
Task Force One is one of 28 urban search and rescue teams in the national disaster response system.
Pillen authorized the deployment through the Nebraska Emergency Management Act.
The group is expected to be deployed for up to 14 days.
