Governor Pillen will visit Texas to receive update on the southern border security

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — It will be a busy weekend for Gov. Jim Pillen.

Pillen and Major General Craig Strong, adjutant general of the Nebraska National Guard, will travel to Texas on Sunday to receive a security update on the southern border.

They will join Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and several other Republican governors from across the country for a press conference at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday in Eagle Pass, Texas.

“The mission to secure the border is critical to the security of Nebraskans as well as all Americans,” said Gov. Pillen in a press release on Thursday. “We need to continue our support of Operation Lone Star and will assess additional resources Nebraska can offer to secure the border, and stop the flow of illegal drugs, and end the humanitarian crisis.”

Some aren’t happy with Nebraska’s involvement at the southern border.

Sen. Megan Hunt of Omaha posted on social media early Friday morning, calling this latest visit, “Pathetic.”

She went onto write, “There’s nothing for any Nebraskan elected official to do to “help” at the border. I withdraw my support of Craig Strong for Adjutant General.”

Just last year, Pillen deployed 60 members of the Nebraska National Guard to Texas to help authorities at the southern border. Drone operators from the Nebraska State Patrol were also deployed.
