Heating lamp causes backyard chicken coop to catch fire in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Lincoln Fire & Rescue crews battled a chicken coop fire early Friday morning in Lincoln.

LFR spokeswoman MJ Lierman said it happened around 5 a.m. near 27th and Dudley Streets.

Crews found a backyard chicken coop engulfed in flames when they arrived.

Lierman said the fire spread to a detached garage, but was quickly contained. Lierman said it caused about $1,000 in damage.

The fire was sparked by a heating lamp inside the coop, Lierman said.

Two chickens inside the coop did not survive, according to Lierman.

We are expecting for more updates at 9:30 a.m. Friday.
