Hilgers announces new guide for parents to protect children online
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Yesterday, Attorney General Mike Hilgers announced the settlement with Meta that leaves Nebraska receiving over $200 million.
The lawsuit pertained to Meta not having safeguards for children. Now, Meta is obligated to change safety standards.
Hilgers announced today the launching of a new publication called Parenting in the Digital Age.
“Our office will not stop fighting the battle to protect children online in Nebraska. We are fighting to hold the entire big tech industry accountable. Nebraska Parents are trying to make good decisions for their children, but unfortunately, social media companies have misled them. We hope this guide is a valuable tool to support parents,” said Hilgers.
Parenting in the Digital Age is a guide used by parents to help cover topics like screen time, social media use, grooming, cyberbullying and more. The guide also helps parents find hidden apps and photos on children’s phones.
At the Nebraska State Fair, Nebraskans can pick up a copy of the Parenting in the Digital Age at the Nebraska Attorney General’s booth for free.
