LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A van crashed into a Lincoln fast-food drive-thru on Wednesday afternoon.

It happened shortly before 1 p.m. at the Wendy’s near 48th and Van Dorn streets.

Police said the driver of a van was placing an order in the drive-thru when she was hit from behind by an SUV, which was driven by a 79-year-old Lincoln woman.

That impact sent the van into the drive-thru wall.

“I looked over and saw this maroon SUV was ramming into this other guy and kept driving,” a witness, Kathy Albers, said. “I thought, ‘Holy Cow!'”

Both drivers remained on scene. The driver of the van was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, police said.

Everyone in the building is OK, and the drive-thru is back open, though it’s only operating with one window now.

The witness described the crash as something she’s never seen before.

“For an instant I thought, are you guys mad at each other?” said Albers. “Maybe they had an argument or something. Or I thought maybe he had a medical condition where he couldn’t stop. All these things ran through your mind.”

No crash report has been released, so the cause of the crash remains unknown.

Wendy’s declined to comment on the crash. Police estimate the crash caused about $10,000 in damage to the Wendy’s.
