LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Hundreds celebrated Harleyween while social distancing this afternoon.
Frontier Harley Davidson hosted its third Harleyween but added a trunk or treat outside to encourage social distancing.
Motorcycle owners were encouraged to dress up their bikes and spread joy on the holiday.
“So we asked some of our customers to participate,” said Hollie Pille, for Frontier Harley Davidson. “So, some of our really good loyal customers to bring their motorcycles or their cars whatever they wanted to and pass out candy.”
“It’s my first year doing this,” said Sean VanWinkle. “So, I hope to be able to do some more volunteer work kind of like this and it just kind of makes you feel good.”
“I think it’s just fun to get to see everybody’s costumes in the daytime because usually at night, you can’t tell what kids are and they are wearing big winter jackets,” said Sean’s wife, Katie.
Pille says 300 to 400 people attended Harleyween.
The trunk or treat was spaced out in a circle in front of the building. Scavenger hunts, photoshoots, and more were inside.
“Something that’s been super popular is we do a kids tattoo parlor, so tattoos with Harley Davidson kind of go hand in hand,” said Pille.
Employees up dressed up in costumes, masks were encouraged, and the store posted health guidelines for the public to follow. One mother said the event was on her to-do list because it was a better choice than normal door to door trick or treating.
Yes, it’s very moreso safer,” said Trisha Jones. “I feel like due to the fact that it was a company, they would be more established and more sanitized and so more of a risk of not getting COVID.”
“I would say this year’s probably the best turnout, which is kind of surprising, but I think because of having trunk or treat, it’s just been really busy,” says Pille.
