Husker hoops transfer Rienk Mast melds with teammates, Hoiberg’s offense

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Graduate transfer Rienk Mast is already starting to fit in with the scarlet and cream.

The 6-foot-9 forward spent the last four years with the Bradley Braves, helping the team to a 25-10 record and a Missouri Valley Conference title last season.

Mast and company even made an appearance in the NIT tournament, which the Huskers haven’t played in since 2019.

The Netherlands native is hoping to make an impact at Nebraska, filling the shoes of recent graduate Derrick Walker, a second-team All-Big Ten selection last season.

“Definitely going to try and do very similar things to him in that offense because he was very, very effective with it,” Mast said at a Wednesday press conference.

This offseason, Mast has been learning Hoiberg’s offensive system, which he said plays into his strengths.

Offensively, Mast said he excels in his passing ability, while also “exploiting small advantages” in offenses.

On defense, Mast said he specializes in being in the right spot at the right time.

“It’s been pretty easy to adjust for me,” he said.

Mast has also been adjusting well with his fellow teammates, including familiar faces like C.J. Wilcher, Sam Hoiberg and Keisei Tominaga.

“A lot of funny dudes on the team, but they know how to get their work done and be serious when you need to be serious,” he said.
