Husker volleyball draws Delaware State in first round of NCAA Tournament

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska will host the Delaware State Hornets in the first round of the 2022 Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship.

The Hornets earned their first ever bid into the women’s volleyball championship after securing a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Title.

Delaware State was led this season in kills by Alondra Maldonado (313) and Karen Cordero (249).

Sydney Lewis and Kelsie Dawson led the program in blocks with 90 and 79, respectively.

They are second in the country in opponent hitting percentage behind the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

The two programs have never played each other in volleyball but did battle in men’s basketball back in 2017.

Nebraska will play Delaware State at home on Thursday at 7 pm.

The winner will take on either Kansas or number 7 Miami on Friday.

Texas, Louisville, Wisconsin and Stanford all received top four seeds. If those teams all advance past the second round, they would host an NCAA Regional on Dec. 8-10.

The Huskers look to return to the NCAA Semifinals for the 17th time in program history and second year in a row after finishing as runner-up last year to Wisconsin in Columbus, Ohio. This year’s NCAA Championship is set for December 15-17 at the CHI Health Center in Omaha.
