‘I am on a mission’: Matt Rhule says businesses will want to hire Huskers

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Matt Rhule spoke at a Lincoln Chamber of Commerce event on Wednesday.

It was the first time a Nebraska head football coach ever spoke at the Face the Chamber event, which is held once a month.

Rhule laid out his vision for the football team before a crowd of about 500 people.

“I am on a mission to build the classiest, best college football program that there is,” he said. “I am on a mission — whether it’s how we run camps, how we travel, if we come down and have a movie night at your movie theater — I am on a mission for us to be the very best of the best. There are no days off.”

Rhule said he will work to develop Husker players into “educated” men whom Nebraska businesses want to recruit.

“Our purpose is to make the people that are in our program better,” he said. “And isn’t that what our state needs? Don’t you guys need people entering the workforce in this state who have been loved and pushed and are the best of the best.”

Rhule also spoke about the importance of building community in Lincoln.

“Our kids are growing up in a world where they think community is something online,” he said. “It’s not. It’s not. It’s in person. It’s around each other. It’s this.”
