PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — AAA Northeast said Monday that gas prices in Rhode Island dropped an average of 12 cents over the last week.

Last week’s average price was $4.60, while this week’s is $4.48.

Monday’s gas prices are 43 cents lower than they were a month ago, and $1.20 higher than they were at this time last year.

Gas in the Ocean State is 13 cents more expensive than the national average.

“There’s reason to be cautiously optimistic that pump prices will continue to fall in the near-term, particularly if the global price for oil does not spike. But the overall situation remains very volatile,” said Lloyd Albert, Senior Vice President of Government and Public Affairs for AAA Northeast.
