PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Rep. Grace Diaz and Sen. Alana DiMario celebrated Child Care Awareness and Early Care and Education Advocacy Day at the state house Tuesday.
The lawmakers are co-chairwomen of the Permanent Legislative Commission on Child Care.
The event began with a “Strolling Thunder” march of parent with their infants. A national march is set to take place in Washington, D.C., on June 21.
Attendants were then given the opportunity to speak with legislators about their concerns over childcare in the state.
The event focused on a push for policies and funding that address the challenges faced by parents of young children in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis, the legislators said.
It also included a speaking rotunda, remarks by Rhode Island Association for the Education of Young Children Executive Director Lisa Hildebrand, and a play space donated by Lakeshore Early Learning and the Rhode Island Association for the Education of Young Children.
