Former Cranston Mayor Steve Laffey to run for president in 2024

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Former Cranston Mayor Steve Laffey has announced he will be running in the 2024 primary election.

Laffey is the first Republican to challenge Donald Trump for the upcoming presidential election.

Laffey served as the mayor of Cranston from 2003 to 2007.

He also ran for senate in 2006 but lost to Lincoln Chafee in the Republican primary.

Laffey moved to Colorado where he is now a small cattle and horse rancher.

The economy presides as his top issue so far. He said he believes social security can be reformed in a way that doesn’t hurt young or old people.
