PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — AAA Northeast said Monday that the average price of gasoline in Rhode Island went down 2 cents from last week.

The average is down to $3.40 per gallon. That’s 10 cents lower than a month ago and 14 cents lower than the national average, said AAA Northeast.

“Despite mild weather and a less volatile economic forecast, drivers are not hitting the road and raising gasoline demand to traditional seasonal levels,” said director of public affairs for AAA Northeast, Diana Gugliotta. “It’s possible this is merely the lull before Memorial Day, but it could be a trend that lingers into summer. Stay Tuned.”

This week’s average gas price is $1.32 lower than this time last year.
