Local distillery celebrates National Oyster Day
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The maker of the nation’s only oyster vodka celebrated the official day commemorating the delicious mollusk.
The Industrious Spirit Company has distilled the only known oyster vodka, they call it Ostreida.
“The only things in it are organic corn, super fresh oysters, sourced somewhere from a farm here in New England,” CEO Manya Rubenstein told ABC 6 News. “We use some of those super fresh oysters as part of the distillation process. So, the only thing that we add after the distillation is pure water.”
Rubenstein said it takes about two months to make start to finish. A portion of the proceeds from every bottle of Ostreida goes to Connecticut based Green Wave, an organization who works to scale sustainable ocean farming.
