WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — A bill in Washington — if passed — could help police departments in Rhode Island with training, recruitment, and mental health resources.

“National Police Week is a time for us all to thank the brave members of law enforcement who put their lives on the line every single day to keep our communities safe,” said Rep. Seth Magaziner, who’s a cosponsor of the Invest to Protect Act.

The bill, according to Magaziner, will set aside $50 million every year for the next five years.

If this legislation passes in Washington, almost every police department in the 2nd Congressional District will be eligible for funding, including Burriville, Cranston, Coventry, East Greenwich, Johnston, and Warwick.
