Millions Expected To Travel For Memorial Day Weekend Despite Hike In Gas Prices

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Millions are expected to travel for Memorial Day despite a hike in gas prices, according to an AAA report.

AAA estimates that 39.2 million will be traveling over the weekend. Out of those travelers, 34.9 million are expected to travel by car.

That is nearly 3 million more travelers than in 2021, which totaled 36.2 million, according to AAA.

The national average price Thursday for a gallon of gas was $4.59. Last Memorial Day weekend, the average gas price nationally was $3.04 per gallon.

Currently, the average gas price in Rhode Island is $4.71 per gallon.
