WASHINGTON (WLNE) — Paul Pelosi, the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was “violently assaulted” with a hammer at the couple’s home in San Francisco early Friday morning.

The 82-year-old suffered blunt force injuries to his head and body, after being severely beaten by an assailant that broke into his home, according to people familiar with the investigation.

He is expected to make a full recovery, the Democratic speaker’s office said in a statement.

The speaker was with her protective detail in Washington at the time her husband was attacked.

Drew Hammill, a spokesman for Nancy Pelosi, said the assailant is in custody.

While the attack is believed to not be random, the circumstances are unclear.
