R.I. Senate approves new head of Department of Environmental Management

The Rhode Island Senate approved Terrence Gray as the next director of Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management Tuesday.
Gray, who was approved on a 36-1 margin, has been serving as the acting director after being appointed by Gov. Dan McKee.
Gray will be taking over for Janet Coit, who left the post to follow former Gov. Gina Raimondo to Washington D.C., where she now works for the the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
“Terry Gray has dedicated his public service career to protecting Rhode Island’s treasured natural resources and he has done a terrific job as Acting Director of the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management for the past year,” said McKee.
The new director has been with Department of Environmental Management since 1987.
He has previously overseen the Division of Site Remediation and the Office of Waste Management and most recently served as deputy director.
