Record high temp set in Providence at 87 degrees — breaking old record of 85 set in 1945 1977

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — We have elevated fire weather concerns for today. Dry, warm, and breezy conditions today with winds will be gusting up to 15-20 mph this afternoon and tapering off after 6 p.m.

Temperatures are on the rise today; mid 80s for inland areas, but a little cooler along coast due to an afternoon sea breeze keeping you in the upper 60’s and 70’s today.

As of 2:25 p.m., the National Weather Service Boston confirms that the record high temperature was set in Providence at 87 degrees — breaking the old record of 85 set in 1945 and 1977.

As the temps heat up it might be tempting to get a beach day in, but know the water is much colder than our air temperatures. Our water temps are running about the mid-40s.
