Texas governor directs state agencies to prosecute parents of trans children as child abusers

AUSTIN, Texas (WLNE)- Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, has directed state agencies to prosecute parents of trans children as child abusers.
Abbott sent a letter to the Department of Family and Protective Services on Tuesday.
In the letter, he cited an opinion issued on Friday by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, where Paxton said that some of the gender-affirming treatments for transgender children, such as gender reassignment surgery and puberty-blocking medications ,“can legally constitute child abuse under several provisions” of state law.
Abbott told the agency to “conduct a prompt and thorough investigation of any reported instances of these abusive procedures in the State of Texas.”
The governor also instructed all teachers, doctors, and caregivers to report any trans students that they see.
