OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Omaha Police and the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) are investigating an in-custody death after a man shot at officers then turned his firearm on himself.

It all began around 9 pm on Wednesday when officers arrived at an apartment, 2223 N Main St, for a domestic disturbance call.

While en route to the scene, officers learned that the male suspect had left the apartment while wearing a tactical vest and carrying a rifle.

The suspect was reportedly found in the apartment parking lot where he fired at least one shot towards officers.

It was then that the man turned the firearm on himself. Despite officers performing life-saving measures, the suspect died at the scene.

Authorities say no Omaha officers fired their weapons or were injured.

As is procedure for any in-custody death, it is being investigated.
