Lancaster County agencies battling fires ask for help from farmers but ‘ONLY IF SAFE’

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office and Lincoln-Lancaster Emergency Management say they need the help of farmers to fight wildfires but only if it is safe to do so.

They do not want anyone who has already evacuated to go back.

The Lincoln-Lancaster Emergency Management Agency tweeted the following: “EMERGENCY MESSAGE: Any farmers with pivots or water sources please turn them on from SW 72nd to SW 100th from Princeton to Apple. ONLY IF SAFE”

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office tweeted a similar message: “ONLY IF YOU CAN SAFELY turn on any center pivots in your fields or sprinklers in yards etc in the affected area please do. However, we don’t want anybody going into an already dangerous area if you have left!”
