Lancaster County reports 5th COVID-19 death, dozens of recoveries

Health officials on Thursday reported the fifth coronavirus-related death in Lancaster County.

The person was known to be positive for the virus, was hospitalized and had underlying health condition, health officials said.

Ten new confirmed cases and 45 new recoveries were also reported, bringing the totals to 698 and 108 respectively. Recoveries have only been reported for two days.

The fifth death comes a day after the last reported death in Lincoln. Statewide, 108 people have died from the virus.

Local hospitals are reporting 39 COVID-19 in-patients, 20 of which are Lancaster County residents.

Contract tracers have identified 252 Lancaster County residents who have tested positive related to the Smithfield Food plant in Crete – 36% of all confirmed cases in Lancaster County. Additional testing for plant employees is being done Friday.
