Lancaster County Republicans start petition against “fairness ordinance”

Lincoln City Council Member Introduces New Version Of 'fairness Ordinance'

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — As mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird is expected to sign the recently approved “fairness ordinance” into law, Lancaster County Republican Party is petitioning against the ordinance.

The LCRP released the following statement after the ordinance was approved by city council late Monday.

“This City Charter amendment was purposefully designed to redefine who and what a human being is.  Written to divide our city even further while citizens are fatigued and wore down from constant pressure on what used to be our “normal” life.  As we live in disbelief, seemingly unable to end the hypocrisy of elected officials, leaders, and appointed directors who enact mandates to force submission from the population.”

The Nebraska Family Alliance plans to lead the charge and is launching a 15-day period to gain “the signatures required to repeal the ordinance.”

Because the city charter allows only 15 days for the process, we encourage you to attend our meeting tomorrow to learn how to get involved in the referendum efforts.

The “fairness ordinance” provides protections against discrimination for sexual orientation, gender identity and veteran or military status.
