UPDATE: LFR: 30-foot-high flames engulf garage near residence

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Sunday, around midnight, a garage, next to a residence at 4224 Baldwin Ave., became engulfed in flames.

Lincoln Fire and Rescue (LFR) quickly arrived on scene, reporting 20 to 30-foot-high flames. Battalion Chief Gregg said the flames nearly ignited the trees above.

LFR estimates the total damage to the garage to be about 40,000 dollars, in addition to 10,000 dollars of damage done to contents inside the garage. Thankfully, no injuries were reported and no damage was done to the nearby home.

The fire was undercontrol after 20 minutes.

The cause of the blaze was determined to be an improperly disposed cigarette.
