Lincoln Board of Education considering more than 4% pay raise for LPS teachers
LINCOLN, Neb.(KLKN) — A pay raise could be coming next school year for Lincoln Public School teachers.
The Lincoln Board of Education and Lincoln Education Association have reached a tentative contract agreement for the 2024-25 school year.
Under this proposed contract, LPS teachers would see a 4.55% bump in pay. That would raise the base salary from $47,056 to $48,556.
Health insurance premiums would also increase by 1.99% if the contract is approved.
“This continued investment in staff will aid us in recruiting, developing, and retaining the best professionals,” LPS superintendent Dr. Paul Gausman said in a press release on Tuesday. “This agreement recognizes the value we place on their expertise while being mindful of the challenging financial situation that our community and state continue to face.”
The tentative agreement also has changes to the school calendar. That includes the end of early release for professional learning each Tuesday for high schools and once a month for elementary and middle schools.
LPS said the school calendar will continue to be 189 days with 175 days of student learning.
This proposed agreement impacts around 3,700 LPS employees.
The Board of Education will hold a second reading on this tentative contract and vote at it’s next meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 13.
