An update to the City of Lincoln’s healthcare benefits now covers gender transition-related costs for employees, officials said.
Mayoral aid Adelle Burk announced the change during a council budget meeting Monday.
It’s one of several steps Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird’s administration is taking to make Lincoln more inclusive. In November, Gaylor Baird signed an executive order prohibiting discrimination on the basis of gender identity for city workers.
Lincoln is also working with an Omaha company to provide training for 100 staff members – mostly directors or managers – on inclusive topics, Burk said.
