Lincoln doctor arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting patients
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – On Thursday, a Lincoln doctor was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault involving his patients, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office said.
Around 9:30 a.m., authorities arrested Dr. Scott Schmidt at his home without incident.
Schmidt was an addiction medicine specialist at Pine Lake Behavioral Health & Medical. He was fired in June.
Schmidt was arrested on suspicion of first- and second-degree sexual assault involving two of his patients.
According to court documents, five victims – all men between the ages of 20 and 30- have alleged that Schmidt assaulted them between 2016 and 2022.
The Sheriff’s Office said it is currently investigating the assaults that occurred between January and July of 2022.
It did not say whether other agencies are investigating the other allegations.
Pine Lake Director of Operations Jared Ray released a written statement:
“Once we became aware of the allegations against Dr. Schmidt we acted swiftly and decisively. Our primary concern at this time is the health and safety of our patients and providers and we are confident that the justice system will do what it needs to do in this situation. We look forward to continuing to provide medically necessary care for our community and we will remain future focused, hopefully putting this behind us and remaining committed to helping individuals and families seeking lasting change and better health.”
The investigation is open and ongoing.
