Lincoln East and Lincoln Southwest advance to district soccer final

Lincoln, Neb. (KLKN) — The matchup for the boys soccer A-1 district final is set.

A city showdown between Lincoln Southwest and Lincoln East will take place on Wednesday, with a spot in the state tournament on the line.

The Silver Hawks took care of business on Monday, dismantling Omaha Burke 6-0.

Lane Kruse and Mabast Alawdi each scored two goals, and the Hawks also received goal contributions from Landon Holmberg and Tanner Novosad.

Southwest grabbed its 14th win of the season en route to the district title game.

The Spartans had a tougher road on Monday.

East trailed Millard West 2-0 with under 10 minutes remaining, but the Spartans mounted a last-second comeback to force extra time.

After two halves of extra time, the game advanced to a penalty shootout.

After a long back and forth, Jonny Hoesch scored the decisive penalty kick to send the Spartans to the title game.
