Lincoln East girls soccer punches ticket to state tournament

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Late-game drama has been the theme of district soccer, and Thursday night’s District A-3 girls final between Lincoln East and Lincoln Southeast had plenty.

The Knights got out to an early 1-0 lead only 12 minutes into a match thanks to a goal from freshman Katie Childress.

Southeast goalkeeper Johanne Hagen kept East off the board until going down with a leg injury in the second half. She was unable to return to the match.

With just about 10 minutes remaining in the game, Lincoln East’s Page Monson tied it up 1-1 on a free kick.

Then just four minutes later, MaKynlie Cade scored the game-winning shot.

The Spartans won 2-1 to claim the district title and are headed to the state tournament.
