A Lincoln family is one step closer to raising their family in a new home. The family of six sought the assistance of Lincoln Habitat for Humanity. Their current living conditions are not adequate for the family.

The family, who is Kurdish, moved to Lincoln in 2015. They are incredibly happy and grateful for the home, which raised its walls for the first time Thursday morning. How does a family go about receiving a home from Habitat for Humanity?

"When a home owner wants to apply they go through a process through application and credit checks," said Christina Zink of Habitat for Humanity. "We do an in-person interview and then we actually visit their current living conditions to see that they do live in sub-standard housing. Then once they’re chosen they begin sweat equity."

Around 20 people have volunteered their time to put up the home. The frame is expected to be completely up by the end of the day Thursday.
