Lincoln family works to bring Hispanic community together

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Latino community came alive with smells of delicious foods and the sounds of Hispanic music as many Latino business owners shared their culture with Lincoln.

A variety of vendors and food trucks filled the Royal Grove venue in northwest Lincoln on Sunday afternoon serving up authentic food like aguas frescas, carne asada tacos and sweet horchata.

The event, Bailes de Nebraska, was organized by one family looking to create a space for all Hispanics to come together.

Steve Solorio, the event organizer, has also hosted events like a cultural festival at this year’s Lancaster County Super Fair.

His sister Eren Beesley said Bailes de Nebraska is a tradition that the Solorio family hopes to continue into the future.

“This is a time to get all the Latino community together,” Beesley said. “[There is] a lot of admiring and advertising of businesses, local businesses, amazing food, as well as just getting together and bonding as a Latino community.”

Beesley is the owner of Boho Beauties, which had a spread of its goods out for display that attracted many potential customers.

With homemade T-shirts and bracelets on display and her family at her side, she said events like these give people a chance to experience a bit of what home-style Hispanic communities are like.

“[We’re] giving everybody an opportunity to share what they got, homemade items, products that aren’t really at normal vendors, so it gives a little taste of our culture,” Beesley said.

Beesley said that each month, the number of vendors seems to double in size, with this show reaching its goal of filling the venue.

But the Solorio family doesn’t want to stop there. They hope the number of people increase again for next month’s show.
