Lincoln hardware stores shares preparation tips for winter weather

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN)- For those in need of vital tools and wintery season must-haves, Westlake Ace Hardware shared tips during this season’s weather changes.

General Manager of Westlake Ace Hardware, Michael Clark said his best advice is to remain proactive instead of reactive.

“As soon as that forecast hits, you need to get to the store, because if you go when the weather hits, you might be a few moments too late,” said Clark.

He said to be sure to stock on winter essentials but keep in mind items are easily forgotten.

“You wanna get things like ice melt, shovels, ice scoops, but there are other things that you might not consider that you’re going to need space heaters,” he said.

Preparing for hard weather he says can be easier if you have resources in place.

“I encourage people to always put themselves together an emergency preparedness kit, with flashlights, batteries, candles, and matches.”

Clark says what surprises him most is many people wait entirely too long to get those much-needed items.

“I will tell you that I have been in situations where retailers run out of things like ice melt and shovels during the course of the storm,” he said. “The more aggressive somebody is about acquiring those items ahead of time, the better off they will be.”
