Lincoln man catches burglar in garage

A Lincoln man came home from work to catch a burglar red handed.  The suspect was in the process of loading up all the homeowners valuables when he was caught in the act. It was a scary evening for a Lincoln man who literally came face to face with a stranger in the process of burglarizing him.

Kent Baker got home from work around 5 Thursday night, when he walked inside—his home was destroyed and he realized the door leading to the garage was wide open. “I looked in the garage and I saw the thief in the garage with my pickup that was fully loaded with my stuff and I shut the door and locked it and called 911,” Baker said.

Police say Travis Nyhoff was inside…and had loaded up Baker's pick–up with thousands of dollars worth of valuables.  Police say when Nyhoff couldn't escape, he crashed thru the garage door with the pickup and drove off.

When Baker went back inside he realized his home was completely trashed. “They took rubbing compound that I had in the garage and threw it on the walls and ceiling they also emptied out my container of white vinegar all over the floor I'm not sure why anyone would do that,” Baker said.

About 15 minutes later police caught up with Nyhoff and arrested him for several charges including burglary.  So while he spends time behind bars, Baker will be spending time cleaning up the mess, and hoping when police return his valuables they're not a mess as well.

“I'm curious to see the condition of my truck after going though a garage door there's broken glass so I know it did some damage I'm hoping he didn't damage most of the stuff he tore out,” Baker said.

Police say while they were chasing Nyhoff he ran into a random apartment..scaring the 67 year old woman who lived there.  They say he tried to avoid police by jumping from the woman's window.  On a good note though…police were able to recover all items that were taken.
