Lincoln man gets 13 years in prison for shooting outside Edgewood theater

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln man will spend over a decade in prison for a shooting outside of Marcus Edgewood Cinema in 2021, the U.S. Attorney’s Office says.
Buongkhoy Daniel Wal, 19, was sentenced Monday to 13 years in prison for discharging a firearm during a drug trafficking crime.
On Aug. 2, 2021, Wal and Xavier Gary planned to buy a half-pound of marijuana from Jayden Prentice, Christopher Duncan and Riley Mills.
The attorney’s office said the purchase was a ruse for a robbery. During the sale outside of Marcus Edgewood Cinema, Prentice and Duncan were shot.
First responders had to resuscitate Duncan, and he ended up having one of his legs amputated, the attorney’s office said.
During an investigation, officers found a gun, which was later connected to Wal and Gary through DNA, according to the attorney’s office.
After his prison sentence, Wal will serve a five-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
In June, Gary was sentenced to 30 months in prison for attempted possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
The sellers — Prentice, Duncan and Mills — pleaded guilty to drug offenses.
Mills was sentenced to more than seven years in prison, and Prentice will spend six years behind bars. Duncan is set to be sentenced on Nov. 7.
