Lincoln man gets over 15 years in federal prison on meth charges

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln man will spend over a decade in federal prison on meth charges, the U.S. Attorney’s Office says.
Patrick Carey, 38, was sentenced Tuesday to 15 years and eight months in prison for possession to distribute meth and a meth mixture.
On March 16, 2023, investigators were surveilling Carey’s home when he and another man left in a vehicle.
Officers tried pulling over the vehicle, which had a broken taillight, but Carey sped off, according to the attorney’s office.
Investigators didn’t chase after Carey. Instead, they waited for him at his apartment.
Eventually, Carey and the other man returned, and they tried running away, the attorney’s office said.
Carey was arrested after he tripped and fell. The other man was also taken into custody.
Officers found that Carey had a bag containing meth, a handgun and ammo, according to the attorney’s office.
Investigators later served a search warrant at the Carey’s apartment and found more meth. In total, authorities seized 192.89 grams of meth.
After his release from prison, Carey will begin a five-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
