Lincoln Mayor reveals city’s LEED Platinum Certification, earning national recognition
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird announced today the City of Lincoln’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification.
The LEED rating system used nationally by the U.S. Green Building Council to determine a city’s sustainable design, construction and community practices.
The Platinum certification is the highest honor achievable. Lincoln is the first city Nebraska and the tenth in the nation to receive it.
“Achieving this certification demonstrates that the City is turning sustainability goals into meaningful results for our community – cleaning the air and water we share, reducing harmful emissions, and strengthening quality of life for current and future generations,” Gaylor Baird said.
Lincoln was certified for multiple criteria including energy and greenhouse gas emissions, natural systems and ecology, materials and resources and quality of life.
