Lincoln woman arrested after trying to run man over with car, hitting building instead

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — On Oct. 7, the Lincoln Police Department (LPD) made an arrest after a woman tried to run someone over, instead hitting an apartment building.

Around 1:15 a.m., LPD officers were dispatched to the area of South 23rd and D streets on reports of a crash.

Upon arrival, it was determined a 2015 Chevy Malibu had struck an apartment building.

Officers determined, after investigation, that Amya Ochao, 18, of Lincoln, was driving the Malibu when she attempted to run over a 19-year-old Lincoln man. Instead, Ochao hit another vehicle, metal railings and the apartment building.

LPD said a disturbance occurred prior to the collision. The disturbance was between the victim, the suspect and two others. The victim reportedly asked the suspect and her friend to leave his apartment. The two women began verbally confronting the victim and his friend, which carried into the parking lot.

Ochao got behind the wheel of the Malibu and accelerated toward the victim. The vehicle then got stuck on a retaining wall, where the two women got out and ran.

Ochao was arrested, lodged and cited for attempted second-degree assault and two counts of criminal mischief.

The victim was not injured. The incident caused $1,050 in damage.
