LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – When Nebraska and Iowa meet for today’s 11th annual Heroes Game, a Lincoln native will be honored.

Cara Loken was chosen as Nebraska’s Hero this season for positively impacting the community and standing as an inspiration to others.

The yellow ribbon support specialist is an event coordinator for the National Guard and is also married to Lt. Col. John Loken, who has 31 years of service.

Cara previously earned the Armed Forces Insurance National Guard Military Spouse of the Year while providing assistance to other service members and their families.

She says, “I love our military. I love their families. I love their kids… The things that I’ve done – I hope I’ve helped people and made a difference in their lives.”

Cara will be recognized on-field at halftime and even have her name inscribed on the game trophy.
