LPD: Lincoln woman arrested after kicking officer, threatening health care workers
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln woman was arrested early Sunday morning after police say she assaulted an officer.
Just before 3:30 a.m., officers with the Lincoln Police Department were sent to St. Elizabeth Hospital for a disturbance.
According to LPD, 28-year-old Brooke Richard was intoxicated, yelling and threatening hospital staff.
Police said she started kicking at people, including the arriving officers, so she was placed in handcuffs.
Richard was later uncuffed after agreeing to leave the hospital, according to LPD, but instead started walking in the opposite direction of the exit.
While officers were placing her under arrest, Richard started screaming, pulling away and throwing her body around, LPD said.
Once she was in custody and carried to a cruiser by four officers, she started kicking again, striking an officer’s shin, according to LPD.
Richard was booked into the Lancaster County Jail on suspicion of third-degree assault on an officer.
She was also cited for first-degree criminal trespassing and resisting arrest.
According to LPD, the injuries to Richard’s face happened before police arrived at the hospital.
“She was brought to the hospital after falling on the concrete, causing a laceration to her lip,” LPD spokeswoman Erika Thomas said. “This was not caused from the altercation with officers.”
