LPD: Motorcyclist hospitalized after ‘excessively speeding’ before crash in east Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln man was hospitalized Wednesday night after a crash in east Lincoln.

Just after 8 p.m., an officer with the Lincoln Police Department tried to pull over a blue Suzuki motorcycle near 52nd and O streets.

But police said the motorcycle took off to the east on O Street.

According to LPD, the officer did not chase after the motorcycle due to safety concerns.

A few minutes later, first responders were sent to the area of 70th and A streets for a car versus motorcycle crash.

Investigators said a white 2016 Mazda 6 — driven by a 46-year-old Lincoln woman — was driving south on 70th Street.

The driver of the Mazda started to merge into the inside lane when police said a blue Suzuki motorcycle — driven by a 20-year-old Lincoln man — ran into the car.

LPD said it was the same motorcycle from 52nd and O and was “excessively speeding” prior to the crash.

The motorcycle rider was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

LPD said the investigation is ongoing.
