LPS to try out new digital hall pass system at pair of middle schools
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Bathroom breaks will look a little different for students at two Lincoln Public Schools middle schools next year.
LPS Superintendent Paul Gausman announced a pilot program coming to Irving and Goodrich Middle Schools next year. He said it will be a digital hall pass system utilized from students’ Chromebooks.
Gausman made the announcement at the end of the LPS Board of Education meeting on Tuesday.
Gausman said students will be trained in the first week back from winter break.
Each student will be allowed two passes per day to use the restroom or go to other areas of the school like the library, counselor or nurse’s office.
Gausman said exceptions can be made at the teacher’s discretion or through the health office for a medical condition. Also, if the student is having an emergency, they can leave immediately and the teacher can notify the front office.
A teacher can also create a pass for a student if they don’t have their Chromebook, Gausman said.
Staff at both middle schools has already been trained on this new system.
