Man arrested at gunpoint after chase ends in northeast Nebraska field, sheriff says
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Colorado man was arrested at gunpoint Wednesday after leading Stanton County sheriff’s deputies on a chase that ended in a rural field.
The Stanton County Sheriff’s Office said it happened around 11:30 p.m. near the Highway 275 and Highway 57 junction.
Authorities said deputies tried to stop an SUV for having defective brake lights.
They said the vehicle fled from deputies for several minutes until it entered a harvested field just southwest of the town of Hoskins.
The SUV tried to drive through the field but became disabled.
Deputies then arrested 54-year-old Jerry Storovich of Denver at gunpoint, the sheriff’s office said in a press release. The Nebraska State Patrol helped with the incident.
Authorities found meth, marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the field. Deputies said Storovich threw them out of the vehicle.
The sheriff’s office said this isn’t Storovich’s first run-in with the law.
Court records show that he was out on bail on drug and weapon charges in Madison County.
He is also wanted in Colorado, where he is accused of fleeing from law enforcement.
And the chase on Wednesday came a year and two days after Storovich led Stanton County deputies on a pursuit in the same SUV, the sheriff’s office said.
Storovich is facing several charges for this most recent case.
