Man found guilty in 2019 murder of Lincoln teen

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A jury has found Majdal Elias guilty of the 2019 murder of 15-year-old Ali Al-Burkat.
Elias was found guilty of second-degree murder and three related gun charges in the September 2019 shooting, according to a tweet from Lancaster County Attorney Pat Condon.
The trial lasted seven days. Elias’ sentencing is scheduled for May 18.
In September 2019, officers responded to gunshots in the area near 7th Street and Fletcher Avenue.
Officers received additional information from the 911 Emergency Communications Center that a man had been shot and needed medical assistance.
When officers arrived, they found Ali in a parking lot near 14th and Superior Streets. He had a gunshot wound to the back, according to Lincoln Police.
They then began CPR and took him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators determined that Ali had been in the area to rob a drug dealer for marijuana.
The drug dealer was not associated with the shooting, according to Bliemeister.
Investigators began processing the scene for evidence and eventually deemed Elias a suspect, according to former Lincoln Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister.
The investigators were able to identify the vehicle Elias had driven and tracked his movements before and after the shooting.
Lincoln Police arrested Elias on Feb. 27, 2020, in connection with the murder of Ali.
