It increases the one-time death benefit of $50,000 which was just approved last year

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A bill that increases compensation for families of Nebraska public safety officers who are killed in the line of duty passed at the state capitol this morning.

They’ll receive $250,000 for deaths that happen this year under this measure, which continues to raise the benefit in future years.

It includes families of law enforcement officers, firefighters, correctional officers, and government or nonprofit EMS ambulance squad members.

Just last year senators passed a bill that provides families with $50,000.
