Media of Nebraska start First Amendment education campaign

A 2017 survey shows nearly four in 10 students couldn’t name even one of the five freedoms granted by the First Amendment, and that has a local organization taking action.

By the way, those freedoms are speech, press, religion, assembly and petition.

The organization, Media of Nebraska, launched a new campaign to increase awareness of the rights they said impact citizens every day.

"When you post on social media, call a talk radio show or write the editor of a newspaper,” Craig Eckert, with Media of Nebraska said. “When you attend a town hall meeting, or don’t attend a town hall meeting, when you gather a petition to forward to a representative. You’re benefiting from at least one first amendment right."

They created print, radio and television advertisements that make people think about their rights, and they all feature someone from right here in Nebraska.

You’ll start seeing these ads on July 4th and the campaign will run through September.
