National Weather Service confirms 2 more tornadoes from Wednesday’s storms

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The National Weather Service in Omaha has confirmed two more tornadoes from Wednesday morning’s line of storms.

That brings the total to three in Nebraska and seven overall from that line of storms.

Channel 8 first reported on the tornado near Bancroft in Cuming County on Thursday.

The weather service now says there was also one in Howells in Colfax County and another in Tekamah in Burt County.

Channel 8 Meteorologist Malcolm Byron said these tornadoes were embedded within a widespread area of damaging straight-line winds, adding insult to injury.

The weather service said the Howells tornado touched down at 5:14 a.m. and is rated an EF-1.

Winds peaked at 100 mph, and those winds caused significant damage to one home.

The garage was knocked 6 inches off its foundation, and the chimney collapsed according to the weather service. The siding and roof were also damaged.

In Burt County, the tornado near Tekamah had a peak wind speed of 80 mph. It touched down around 5:35 a.m.

The weather service said a swath of corn and soybeans about 30 to 50 feet wide was badly damaged, with some plants torn out of the ground.

No nearby homes or barns were damaged.
