LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Nebraska Department of Transportation on Monday announced the closure of Interstate 180 for a bridge demolition next week.

On May 18 and May 20, the southbound lanes of I-180 will be closed at 9 p.m., weather permitting.

During that time, the southbound lanes will be detoured at the I-180 and Interstate 80 interchange, routed west to the Highway 77 interchange, and directed to West O Street.

On May 19 and May 21, the northbound lanes of I-180 will be closed at 9 p.m., weather permitting.

During that time, the northbound lanes will be detoured at the O Street intersection and directed to proceed west on O Street to US-77. From there, traffic will take US-77 north to I-80 east.

According to NDOT, single-lane closures may be in place on these evenings in the direction opposite the full closure.

At 6 a.m. the following morning, detours will be removed, and traffic on I-180 will resume as normal.

The closures are due to the demolition of the bridges at Adams Street and Sun Valley Boulevard.

In the event of severe weather, NDOT said it will revise the closure schedule.
