Nebraska man sentenced to 10 years in prison for abusive sexual contact
OMAHA, Neb. (KLKN) — United States Attorney Lesley A. Woods announced today that a Nebraska man was sentenced on July 30.
Tyrece D. Thomas, 25, of Macy was sentenced to 10 years in prison for once count of abusive sexual contact. He was sentenced in federal court in Omaha.
On June 8, 2020, the victim was walking home when Thomas struck her from behind, stealing her phone. Thomas said he would return her phone if she had sex with him. When the victim refused and attempted to walk away, Thomas struck her again. Thomas then sexually assaulted her.
The victim went to the hospital after the assault and underwent a Sexual Assault Nurse Examination (SANE). The SANE kit was sent to an FBI lab which identified unknown, male DNA. On October 4, 2024, over four years later, the FBI lab notified that a match was found for the unknown DNA. The FBI then obtained a search warrant and got a sample of Thomas’ DNA. The DNA was a match and Thomas was arrested.
