Nebraska volunteer firefighter still battling blazes after 55 years and counting

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Nebraska volunteer firefighter is getting some well-deserved recognition after battling blazes for 55 years and counting.
Larry Lawton has been a member of the Pleasant Dale Volunteer Fire Department since 1968.
The soon-to-be 82-year-old was assistant chief for a couple of years in the 70s, but can’t remember exact dates.
According to the department’s latest Facebook post Lawton said, “That’s what happens when you get old, you forget things!”
But he hasn’t forgotten how to help those in need. Lawton is still the main operator of his favorite truck.
Fire officials say Unit 42 is the 1,500 gallon tanker you can see pictured behind him in the above photo.
You can wish Lawton a happy birthday on May 28.
